VICTORIA, B.C. (Canada): It has been more than two weeks since a $5,000 reward was offered by an anonymous donor for any information leading to an arrest in the vandalism of five headstones in a Jewish cemetery on New Year’s Eve. Detective Lori Beauvais is investigating the crime against Victoria’s Jewish cemetery and hopes someone will come forward with information regarding the case.
I look forward to receiving any tip, and following up every little scrap of information that anyone provides…
~ Det. Lori Beauvais
The caretakers of Emanu-El Jewish Cemetery were shocked to find racist words and swastikas covering multiple grave markers — the police are treating the case as a hate crime since it was likely racially and/or religiously motivated.
The local Jewish community has been deeply affected by the callous act and is looking to the police to develop the case and reach a conviction. If you have any information regarding the case, please contact (250) 995-7444. It has been over two weeks since the reward was posted and the police department offers assurance that they will work in confidence with informants
